Course Description:  RD 54 is a two semester intervention class.  Instruction is provided in phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing.

Course Materials:  Students are expected to have a reading book and paper in class every day.  They must have a spiral notebook and dry erase marker. Please contact me if your student cannot provide these supplies, and I will provide them.

Participation: Students are expected to read independently every day in class for ten minutes.  As a class, we will also read, and students are expected to follow along and to read orally.  They should take in-class notes, listen, and participate in class discussions.

Homework:  Students are to read thirty minutes every school day for homework.  This reading time may include XR and the ten minutes they read in my class.  Three times a week students must complete an online reading program. Twice a week students will do a worksheet.

Grading Policy:  (top)

Late work:  Assignments are expected to be completed on time.  Assignments turned in late will receive a grade of 50%.  Late work is accepted only in the quarter it was due or a month after being assigned, whichever comes first.

Make-up work: Students have one week to turn in make-up work.  Write ABSENT on the top of the work.  After a week, the assignment is late.  Check the file for any hand-outs given that day.  It is the students responsibility to see me for make-up work.

Grading:  Check your grades online; they are not posted in the classroom. Students may see me before or after school to discuss their grades. Students may use computers in my room or in the library to check their grades.

Parental support: (top)  To increase reading, please provide access to books at home and model reading for your student.  Additionally, check the PAR book for assignments, and ensure your child reads every school day for homework.
