Lori Bottomley is the choir and drama teacher at Poston Junior High School. She received her Bachelors of Music in Choral/General Music Education from Ottawa University, where she graduated Magna cum laude. She studied voice under Dr. Cathy Hauan at Mesa Community College where she graduated with an Associates in Arts degree. She is an active member of the ACDA, NAfME, and AMEA music organizations.
Mrs. Bottomley was raised in the Mesa Public Schools, and has raised her 5 children through MPS as well. She loves being a grandma to her 12 amazing grandchildren who are the love of her life. In her free time she enjoys crafting, floral design, playing board games, reading, and writing. She has performed professionally with the Resonance Vocal Ensemble since 2006, where she also gets to keep up playing her violin from time to time.
She has been privileged to hold a number of professional teaching roles including private voice instructor, children's choirs, and church choirs, certified life coach and motivational speaker. Her K - 2 choirs at California Creative Arts School, represented an extremely diverse group of students from over 30 different home languages and in gifted and special needs programs. Teaching these students was a highlight of her career and taught her the power of music to change a student's perspective on life. She was also able to assist in the school musical each year, and work backstage for community theatre shows.
Her desire is to instill in her students a love of music, a passion for life, a belief in their own powerful potential, and the tools to overcome their fears and pursue their dreams. Students will explore music through creative and engaging lessons, that will enrich and enhance their performance quality and foster a fun learning environment. Students will learn to work together as a community of musicians united in purpose and respect for each other as we work collaboratively and play with music from varied genres.
