Biography
I teach 7th grade Honors English, 7th grade English and ELD writing. I hold a bachelor's degree (B.A.) in English and Communications, and recently earned my master's degree (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am a Texas native and earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. My original degree is in Communications - Advertising/Public Relations. I worked in a couple of advertising agencies as part of their writing staff. I also freelanced as a journalist with the El Paso Magazine. I worked for a local El Paso hospital as a writer/public relations specialist and photographer for a couple of years.
I was bitten by the teaching "bug" because of my sister. She was the original "teacher" in my family. She encouraged me to become a teacher so I returned to the university and picked up my second and third majors: English and Education.
I started my career teaching high school English, all levels, and later on yearbook and newspaper. I have worked at different school districts within the state of Texas; all my experience there has been in high school.
All in all, I would have to say that teaching at the junior high level has been a lot of work...and a lot of fun! This is a challenging position with many rewards.
