                 Hello! Welcome to Ms. Bustamante's Reading Class

I am one of the many dedicated staff teachers at Powell Junior High School. Reading at Powell is a rewarding experience for both the teacher and student.  I am originally from Coolidge, Arizona and have resided in Arizona all of my life. Speaking two languages has not only widened my cultural education, but it has allowed me to be perceptive to other ways of thinking and learning.I feel fortunate to work with a diversified population of learning levels and cultures as I have a deep appreciation for all students and backgrounds. All students can succeed!

We all learn and work differently. Students have individual learning styles which must be taken into consideration as they are taught. As I work with students and get to know their learning styles, it is at times necessary to adjust how they are taught which results in  learning the same objective but using different methodologies to teach it. I believe students have the potential to achieve in any area they apply themselves to especially reading. 

ARIZONA READING STANDARDS

One of our focus areas at Powell Junior High is the AIMS test and the Reading Standards of Arizona.. I commend our community for familiarizing themselves with the AIMS test and reading standards. Our reading department encourages and fosters students to reach their full potential. I look forward to teaching not only the standards of reading but demonstrating to students that there is much more to learn beyond into different areas of literature.   For further information on AIMS testing, log onto the following website  www.adeaz.gov  for information from the state of Arizona. Also Powell's AIM's NIGHT will prove to be beneficial by assisting parents with methods that may yield  better results with this state test for their child/children.

I would like to  thank the students, parents and community for the positive involvement with the projects, extracurricular reading assignments and other contributions with the activities that concern  our reading classes. This can only occur because students continue to attend school consistently and attentively with the valued support of parents and guardians.

!Hola Padres!

Gracias  por tomar este tiempo conmigo para informales de las clases de lectura de Powell Junior High School. Primeramente, estare trabajando a diario con su hija/hijo ensenandoles lecciones que los hara lectores mejores. Tengo la dicha de que mis padres me ensenaron las idiomas de espanol y ingles. Mis padres eran humildes pero estaban de el pensamiento de que la educacion era sumamente importante. Les agradezco para siempre el apoyo que me dieron para haber realizado me carrera.

Asi en la escuela de Powell existen estudiantes con  una diversidad de culturas y idiomas abundante.  Me siento afortunada estar con esta populacion donde se aprecian estas diferencias. Tambien asi como hay estudiantes diferentes existen estilos diferentes para aprender. Todos somos diferentes. Cuando un estilo de ensenar o aprender no demuestra resultados, se tiene que cambiar el modo de ensenanza, y esperar mejores resultados.

Cada ano en las escuelas se les presenta el examen de AIMS a los estudiantes para quese pueda medir lo bien que han aprendido las lecciones en ciertas materias. Les agradecemosa todos los padres por su apoyo con sus hijos en la escuela. Les exigo que se informen sobre este examen y otras detalles de interes sobre el departamento de la educacion de Arizona a www.adeaz.gov.
