PRINTING TERMS

This web page is designed to help you better understand the terms that are commonly used in the printing industry and make your printing experience more enjoyable.

PREPRESS: Prepares jobs for the pressroom, ensures all information for job is correct, involves making negatives for plate making, making of poly plates for presses, design services, typesetting, scanning, variable data printing, PDF conversions and much more.

PROOF: Is a sample of the job that is going to printed. The customer must read the proof carefully for errors, sign and return the proof back to the print shop before the customer's job can be printed.

FINISH SIZE: These are paper sizes most commonly used.
Letter size: 8 1/2" x 11"
Legal size: 8 1/2" x 14"
Tabloid size: 11" x 17"
We also print and custom cut sizes from 2" to 48" depending on the application.

INK: Most common color is Black. We have the ability to mix and match ink colors using our Pantone Color Formulas.

Spot color is used to accent or highlight an otherwise plain document.

Process color is the combination of 4 inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), which can be transformed into thousands of colors.

PAPER: We use an array of paper in various weights, colors and textures. We offer a host of specialized products including synthetics with paper like qualities. 

We use Superior Black Print NCR (No Carbon Required); all sheets are 20 lb in weight and has high transfer properties for easy readability. Available in 2 part, 3 part, 4 part and 5 part. Six part forms are special order.
