Barbara earned her bachelors degree in elementary education from Southwest Texas State University and then a masters degree in elementary education with a reading endorsement from Northern Arizona University. She's had a wide variety of teaching experiences since beginning in 1990. She has taught 3rd grade in a Department of Defense Dependents' School in England; 8th grade pre-algebra in Tucson, Arizona; 3rd grade (with a concentration in math) in Wichita Falls, Texas; and 2nd grade in Sterling, Virginia. In 2006, she joined Mesa Public Schools, teaching 2nd grade at Robson Elementary, and then at Las Sendas Elementary before moving into the position of Title I School Improvement Specialist at Pomeroy.
As a Professional Development Specialist Barbara serves Hawthorne, Hermosa Vista, Irving, Ishikawa, Patterson, Sousa and Smith in order to help develop highly effective teachers. Additionally, she is part of the team that coordinates the second year teacher induction program, which focuses on the process of using instructional design to plan units that achieve focused goals for student learning.
