Involve families, students, staff and the community in working toward high academic achievement and success for all, whatever it takes!
The New Year has started off smoothly for the students and faculty at Redbird. I hope each family was able to spend some quality time together over the holidays. It is always great to see how excited the children are to return to school.
Second semester is a time when much of the instruction our teachers provide for our students begins to show real gains. Students make considerable gain in their academics and this is reflected in academic assessments that begin in April. But students cannot learn to their highest potential if they are not in school. Children should come to school every day unless they are ill. Not only is it the best way to create a consistent learning environment, it is the law. Redbird follows Arizona State laws (ARS 15-802) with regard to attendance and truancy. Attendance officers are monitoring our attendance totals and are regularly communicating with schools to ensure that we are following the attendance procedures, protocols, and state truancy and attendance laws. Truancy decisions are being monitored at the district level, and decisions are no longer being left to the discretion of the school principals or staff.
Not only is it important for your child to be at school every day, but to be on time for school, too. Redbird's school day begins at 8:25 a.m. If they arrive after 8:25 a.m., they begin to miss important instruction time. Also, when entering their classroom late, they disrupt the learning of all the other students already in class. Regular attendance and arriving at school on time help children develop positive attitudes about learning.
Lastly, Health Office Appreciation Day is Wednesday, January 28th. I would like to send out a special thank you to Mr. Simon and Ms. Erran in Redbird's Health Office. You are appreciated every day!!
Thank you for your continued support of making Redbird School a wonderful place to learn.
