Greetings and a warm welcome to the Mesa Public Schools Early Childhood Special Education Program and the campus of the Red Mountain Center for Early Education Center. My name is Allen Quie, and I am the administrator at Red Mountain Center for Early Education as well as the Early Childhood Special Education Program with Mesa. I have served in this capacity over the past ten years and continue to appreciate the opportunity to partner with parents and caregivers in providing children with the most positive early childhood experience possible.
The Early Childhood Special Education Program serves over 1,200 preschool students with special needs each year. We have 52 certified teachers on staff (district-wide), and our support staff includes speech language pathologists, school psychologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. At Red Mountain Center for Early Education, we have 17 early childhood classrooms for children with special needs in addition to one program for typically developing preschool children (First Things First) and one program for children with articulation delays (Articulation Phonology Preschool Learning Experience...APPLE). We also serve preschool children with special needs at the following elementary campuses: Entz, Johnson, Jordan Center for Early Education, Keller and O'Connor.
Our Early Childhood Special Education classes are designed to serve preschool children from 3 years to 5 years of age. All of our students work on increasing age-appropriate interactions within the home and school environments, and we believe family members are an integral component of the educational process. During the preschool day, our students participate in a rich variety of activities in which they experience many opportunities for learning including circle time, small and large group activities, independent playtime, story time, etc. Our goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate educational environment that builds each student's foundation for learning, and we are committed to provide all of our students with an outstanding and positive school experience.
Working together, we can accomplish wonderful things for your child. Again, welcome to the Mesa Public School District, Early Childhood Special Education, where "success is expected, documented, and celebrated."
