2002 Stanford 9 Scores
In April 2002 all Arizona public school students in grades 2-9 took the Stanford 9 test. These scores tell you how a student, or the average student at a school, compares to students nationally. Please keep the following in mind when interpreting these scores:
- The Stanford 9 comparison group consists of about 20,000 students per grade level who are representative of students across the United States who took the test in the spring of 2002.
- The scores are percentile ranks. They tell you that the average student did better than ___ percent of students in the national comparison group.
- The scores include all students in the school during the testing week, including those who just enrolled that day. In most schools, the average for students who began the year at the school is 15-20 percentile points higher than those who enrolled during the year.
- The scores are only one of the many factors that should be considered when looking at schools. For example, is you child interested in music? Debate? Having an opportunity to excel in many areas in order to win college scholarships? Mesa students capture more state music awards, win more championships, and take home more scholarships [over $41 million in 2001], but you wouldn't know that if you just looked at the Stanford 9 scores.
