COURSE
DESCRIPTIONS:

FS01
Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences
- Grade 7, 1 semester
Students will explore various areas of FACS through
hands-on activities, group projects and class discussion.
Areas such as life skills, goals and decision making,
culinary arts and nutrition, hospitality, child care,
apparel/textiles, and careers will be covered.

FS02
Life Skills - Grades 8, 9, 1 semester
Students will focus on developing skills in the areas
of goal setting, conflict resolution, wellness, food
preparation, consumer skills, career exploration, responsible
decision making and technology management.

FS07
Food, Choices and Culture - Grade 8, 1 semester
An introductory course emphasizing personal food choices.
Activities include food preparation, nutrition, kitchen
management, hospitality, eating disorders, cultures,
and careers.

FS10 Teens and Teaching
- Grade 9, 1 semester
Open to any student who enjoys children and teaching.
Students will develop leadership skills through interaction
with elementary school students. Other topics include
self-esteem, communication, organization and problem
solving, and child development. The first quarter is
spent in preparation for going to the elementary school
and the second quarter is spent preparing lessons and
teaching them to elementary students. Students may earn
hours toward
the Graduation Honor for Excellence in Service Learning.

Foods for Today - Grade 9, 1 semester
This course offers opportunities in food selection,
nutrition, equipment use and safety. Principles of food
preparation are taught through demonstrations and lab
experiences. Also included are meal planning, hospitality,
and reinforcement of basic skills.

FS60
Clothing - Grade 9, 1 semester
For students who wish to learn to sew or for those who
wish to add to their sewing knowledge. Activities include
sewing techniques, machine use and care, fabric selection
and personally selected construction projects.
