  • SC07 7TH GRADE SCIENCE - one semester
This is the introductory science course at the junior high. It is an integrated science course which includes the following science disciplines: history and nature of science, science in personal and social perspectives, life, earth and space science. The course has an emphasis on the fundamental inquiry process skills.
  • SC08 8TH GRADE SCIENCE - one semester
This is a second level science course at the junior high, that includes history and nature of science, science in personal and social perspectives, life and physical science. The course has a strong emphasis on the intermediate inquiry process skills. This course may be taken by the science oriented seventh grade student who intends a full curriculum of science through his/her senior year. Note: Students enrolled in this course will be expected to enroll in Essential Elements of Science (SC09) as a full-year 8th grade course and Biology as a full-year freshman course. Enrollment and continuation in this science advancement program will be based upon each quarter's progress, with a minimum "B" grade required and placement by most recent science teacher.

8th Grade:

  • SC08 INTEGRATED SCIENCE - one semester
This is a second level science course at the junior high, that includes history and nature of science, science in personal and social perspectives, life and physical science. The course has a strong emphasis on the intermediate inquiry process skills.
  • SC09 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF SCIENCE - full year 1 credit
SC09 is open only to 8th graders who took SC07 & SC08 in 7th grade and received an A or B each quarter. This is a third level science course at the junior high which builds upon the skills developed in 7th and 8th grade science. It is also an integrated science course that includes: astronomy, ecology and chemistry concepts. It will be a laboratory based course with an emphasis on chemistry using advanced process skills of science and the use of mathematical and data analysis skills. Note: This course is highly recommended to prepare students for the more rigorous science courses required in high school. Students who took 7th and 8th grade science as 7th grade students are expected to continue in the accelerated science program by taking this course in the 8th grade. EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT FOR THIS CLASS.

9th Grade:

  • SC09 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF SCIENCE - full year 1 credit
This is a third level science course at the junior high which builds upon the skills developed in 7th and 8th grade science. It is also an integrated science course that includes: astronomy, chemistry, and physics concepts. It will be a laboratory based course with an emphasis on chemistry using advanced process skills of science and the use of mathematical and data analysis skills.
  • SC49 BIOLOGY - full year 1 credit
This course is specifically designed for students with advanced science and math skills whose educational plans qualify them for this rigorous course. Major areas of study are cell structure, function and processes, genetics, classification, evolution, microbiology, plants, animals, human systems (including reproduction), and ecology. Lab activities will include dissections. Fulfills college entrance and district graduation requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of 7th and 8th grade science with a minimum grade of "B" each quarter, and concurrent enrollment in Algebra I or higher.
