COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

  • WL21 SPANISH I - full year 1 credit
    This course introduces the student to basic Spanish vocabulary and fundamental grammatical principles, stressing speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. The culture and customs of Spanish-speaking people are discussed. Students learn to describe people and have been introduced to the concepts of telling time, the alphabet, the weather, greetings and goodbyes, and numbers. Must be taken consecutively with Spanish II.
  • WL22 SPANISH II - full year 1 credit
    First year skills are reviewed and maintained with increased emphasis on oral expression, writing, and reading comprehension. There will be some study of the appropriate culture and civilization. New grammatical principles will be introduced. Students create flashcards at the beginning of each chapter and spend time reinforcing vocabulary. Students give presentations and practice their language skills in a natural setting. Prerequisite: Average or above average grades in Spanish I.
  • WL41 FRENCH I - full year 1 credit
    This course introduces the student to basic French vocabulary and fundamental grammatical principles, stressing speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. The culture and customs of French-speaking people are also discussed. Students play games, learning about French culture, practicing new vocabulary, and showcasing what they are learning by putting together presentations. Bon jour! Must be taken consecutively with French II.
  • WL42 FRENCH II - full year 1 credit
    First year skills are reviewed and maintained. Increased emphasis is placed upon oral expression, writing and reading comprehension. There will be some study of the appropriate culture and civilization. Prerequisite: Average or above average grades in French I.
