My name is Gloria Chavez and I am the 8th grade F.A.M. ELA teacher here at Rhodes Junior High.  This is my seventeenth year of teaching in Mesa Public Schools and I love teaching here at Rhodes.

I was born in Mexico City, lived in Lima, Peru, but grew up primarily in Los Angeles.  I married my high school sweetheart and we have been married for 37 years.  We have four children, (all adults), five grandsons, and one granddaughter.

Although I always wanted to be a teacher, I chose to raise my family first.  Once our children were all in school, I returned to school myself to pursue my teaching degree.  I graduated from A.S.U. in 2002 with a B.A. in Elementary Education, ESL.  I hold a K-8 Arizona teaching certificate with a Middle School English Certificate.  In addition, in 2017, I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

In our class you will find standards-based teaching, active learning, a caring and safe environment, high expectations, and an emphasis on “Positive Outstanding People,” (P.O.P).  Along with the RTS team and the entire staff at Rhodes, I am committed to helping every student be both academically and personally successful.
