Biography

A special welcome to my students and their families. Thank you for visiting my page. Let me take a moment to introduce myself.

After serving in the US Navy for eight and a half years, I went back to school to become a special education teacher. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education from Arizona State University, in 2012, and a Master's degree in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Grand Canyon University, in 2016.

Since that time, I have taught for two years in Apache Junction Unified School District in a program called Communication Skills (CS). While not all my students had autism, they all struggled with communication as their primary disability. I then taught junior high students with autism in Mesa Public Schools for four years.

Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year I will be teaching the 2nd/3rd grade combined autism classroom at Stevenson Elementary. I am excited for this new chapter in my career and what the future has to hold.

As an Arizona school, we are teaching from the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards. These standards are designed to improve learning for all students and give educators guidance in our endeavor to prepare our students for success in life after high school. Additionally, we are an AVID school. AVID strategies are designed to aid students in preparing for the demands of college such as organization, independent study skills, and expression.
