Joseph Johnston received his Bachelors of Music Performance, Bachelors of Music Education, and a Masters in Secondary Education with an emphasis in music from Northern Arizona University. His first teaching job was at Grant Sawyer Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was nominated for New Teacher of the Year. This is Mr. Johnston's 20th year as the Choral Conductor and Department Chair at Red Mountain High School. He has enjoyed years of memorable experiences including recent performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the La Camarata Choir. He has also been a professor at Mesa Community College for the past 15 years conducting various choirs, voice master classes, musicals and music education courses in connection with Ottawa University. He is an active member of AMEA and ACDA and is an AzMEA Arizona Choral Educator's Past-President. He has chaired the Solo and Ensemble Festival and Regional Choir for the North Central Region, and has been the Choral Conductor for the Arizona Ambassadors of Music from 2003-Present. He is currently the AzACDA R &S Chair for High School Activities. He has conducted the Northeast Regional Choir, the Eastern Arizona College Honor Choir, the ChoDA Men’s Honor Chorus, the Paradise Valley Mens Honor Chorus, the Scottsdale Honor Chorus, Arizona Jr. High All-State, the Mesa Public Schools Jr. High Honor Choir, and the Greater Phoenix Honor Chorus. He has also been a clinician and adjudicator at several choral events throughout the state. He has taught over 18 student teachers and was recently given the Mentor Teacher of the Year from Arizona State University. He enjoys spend every minute he can with his wife and four beautiful children.
