Course Overview:

In this course, students will explore essential thematic questions in order to develop career and college ready reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The course is developed around the thematic concept of “coming of age” and how these experiences shape a person’s future perspective. Students will develop writing skills as they compose expository and argumentative compositions in addition to research assignments. Students will apply close reading and analysis skills to a Shakespearean play, a variety of non-fiction articles and essays, and the novel Animal Farm. Finally, students will develop their speaking and listening skills through Socratic discussions and formal presentations with careful attention paid to the purpose/audience relationship.
