Welcome to Red Mountain High School!

Hello, my name is Mr. Robert J. Macias and I will be your American History, World History, and WWII Studies instructor! I am excited to have you in my class and look forward to teaching you and watching you succeed.

I am entering my 32nd year in education. I began my teaching career in Long Beach, CA. in 1989, teaching at Long Beach Poly High School. I have taught the past 28 years in Mesa Public Schools, the first 4 years at Brimhall Jr. High, and the last 24 at RMHS. I was born in Cuba, moving to the United States in 1962. Our first American hometown was Kansas City, MO. We then moved to Long Beach, CA. in 1968, where I grew up. I attended Oral Roberts University (1977-1981) on a full baseball scholarship, and graduated with my BA. I took my graduate courses in Social Studies through the University of Iowa.

Having grown up in Long Beach, naturally I love the beach. I attended LB Wilson High School. I spent my summers playing baseball and hanging out at Huntington Beach & Seal Beach. I played baseball in college (I was a pitcher). While playing in college, our team played in the College World Series (1978), and three Regionals. I was fortunate to get drafted by the San Diego Padres after my senior year, in 1981, and played 3 years in their organization.

I have taught classes in American History, World History, World War II Studies, GradPoint, and Center for Success. I am very excited about joining The Core program this year! I have coached Varsity & JV Baseball, Freshman Football, Badminton, and JV Girls Basketball. I am currently the faculty sponsor of RMHS Club Diversity. Club Diversity has won several Service Club of the Year awards (2009, 2010, 2011). In 2015 Club Diversity was selected the State of Arizona’s Volunteer Service Club of the Year!

I love listening to music (Classic Rock, Motown, Country), reading about history/politics, and staying up on current events. I am a HUGE Kansas City Chiefs fan (Super Bowl LIV Champions!), as well as a HUGE New York Yankees fan! In my spare time, I enjoy playing fantasy football, watching movies, and spending time with my family and our dogs, Lucy & Sebastian, and our cat Karma.

I look forward to helping you in any way that I can. Let’s have a great year!
