Biography

I grew up in northern Illinois.  This is my sixth year at Red Mountain High School. I  teach SLD Essentials of Reading and Writing, US History and assist Mrs. Hain in Principles of Economics BE77.

Teaching is what I call my semi-retirement career.  I have a background in teaching pre-school and in the hospitality field where I learned through osmosis, by attending the school of hard knocks.  Most of my experience comes from working in a multi-generational daycare facility and at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Illinois.  My thirteen years at Great America were in the food and beverage area.  I supervised and trained employees for my department. Their ages ranged from 15-92.

It took me 30 years after my high school graduation to earn a bachelor's degree in Business Management (BSMB).  My first two years of teaching were in Coolidge on an emergency certification (a program through Pinal County) while working on my masters in special education (MAE-SPED).

Teaching has been my life, from student teaching 8th graders math while a junior and senior in high school to raising my two children.  All in all, I enjoy what I am doing and look forward to teaching for the next few years until time to retire.

My two children have blessed me with 3 grandaughters.  My daughter Amanda has twin girls who are  5.  My son Brandon's daughter is just over a year. A new addition to his family arrived July 7, 2009. It's a boy, my first grandson!!

In my spare time I enjoy  the outdoors.  Hiking is one of my favorite outdoor sports.  I have hiked to Phantom Ranch twice and have made 4 treks to Havasu Falls.  As the weather begins to cool, we plan to get conditioned to once again get to Havasu Falls. I am anxious to see the changes made by the flooding in 2008.
