School Day

8:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m., Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.

8:15 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.Every Wednesday

Absences

Please call the school office in the morning if your child is absent. If you are going out of town or have an appointment you can call ahead of time.472 – 7902. Regular attendance is very important to your child’s progress in school. Often children that miss too much fall behind in their skills. However, please do not send your child to school with a fever or an upset stomach. Coming to school ill is difficult for your child and could expose other children to illness.

Lunch

Second graders may buy their lunch or bring a sack lunch. You may put money in your child’s account or they can bring checks or cash to school. If they bring lunch money to school, please make sure it is labeled with their name and room number. Also be sure to tell your child they have money in their backpack to give the teacher. It really slows down the lunch line if the cafeteria has to take lunch money during our lunch time. Forms are available for free or reduced lunch. The cafeteria will be sending notes home with lunch information and monthly menus.

Discipline

RMRE is a PBIS school, which means we follow a school wide Challenger Code of Conduct.  More information on our challenger code of conduct will follow the first week of school. Please watch your child’s homework binder for this information.

Homework Binder

I believe it is important for second grade students to be fluent readers.  Therefore, my homework consists maily of nightly reading (at least 20 min.), practicing spelling words and a few math practice problems to work on skills from class.  This will only be one sheet each week.  A white homework binder will be sent home the first week of school. This binder is the way I communicate with students and parents on a daily basis. Please look for it every day. Inside you will find our weekly homework page that needs to be completed and returned on Fridays. I will also send a weekly newsletter containing important classroom information along with the week's spelling list.

Friday Folders

Each Friday I will send home an RMRE folder. Inside the folder will be graded papers from the week and notes from the office. Please clean it out and return the folder on Monday. Thank you!

Star Student

Each week a student is chosen to be the star student for the week.  They will have a “favorites” page to fill out and bring to class to share.  Your child may also bring a small item and/or pictures to share with the class during this week.

Water Bottles/Snacks

Water bottles will be allowed at desks (as long as they are not a distraction). Colored water or flavored water will need to wait until lunch.

Your child may bring a healthy snack to be eaten at our first recess.  Students may not share snacks with others.

Things Not Allowed at School

Toys of any kind are not allowed at school.  Perfume, makeup, and hairspray are also not allowed at school because of allergic reactions.  Cell phones, ipads, and personal music devices must be off and in a backpack during school hours.

Birthdays

Large birthday celebrations should be reserved for home.  However, if you would like to send small individually wrapped treats to pass out at school that is fine.  Anything brought to school needs to fit in your child's backpack and not be brought to the front office.  Please be aware of any allergies or food restrictions in the class.  These treats will be passed out at the end of the day.
