Biography

I was born and raised in California but have become an Arizonan since moving here in 1986. Between California and Arizona I lived in Utah, Colorado and Texas. When my husband and I moved to Arizona with our young family, we settled in Chandler just across the street from Jordan Elementary School (a Mesa Public Schools elementary school). While my children were young, I spent several years providing home day care and working part time at Jordan. I then worked for Cold Stone Creamery as one of the founder's first store managers (even before they franchised).

In October 1995, I decided I missed the school environment and started working for Mesa Public Schools in the Property Management department. I really missed working with students so I began working as the Bookstore Manager at Dobson High School in February 1997. I was there until July 2011 when I transferred to a teaching position at Carson Jr. High. I am married to a recently retired teacher/coach. We are the parents of 4 children (1 boy and 3 girls) and the proud grandparents of six boys and three girls.

I attended Brigham Young University right after I graduated from high school but didn't finish my degree before leaving school and moving to Colorado. When my youngest daughter was in high school, I returned to college and completed a Bachelor of General Studies degree from BYU and then earned a Master's in Education and a Kindergarten through 8th grade teaching certificate from ASU. Since graduating from ASU, I have completed a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement and a Provisional Gifted Endorsement. I am also highly qualified in Middle Grades Reading and Literature. For 3 years I taught 7th and 8th grade Remedial Reading at Carson Jr. High. I then decided to teach elementary school and transferred to Robson Elementary where I have had the opportunity to teach 5th grade and a 2nd/3rd combination English Language Development class. During the 2017-18 school year I am lucky enough to teach a class of 2nd grade English language learners to help them develop their English speaking, writing and reading skills. I enjoy children of all ages and have been so happy I completed my education so that I can have the opportunity to be with these fine young people every day.
