When should my child be kept home from school?
    • Fever over 100 degrees
    • Head lice or nits (over 3 days absence will be considered unexcused)
    • Eye infections (red and itchy with drainage)
    • Vomiting, diarrhea, severe stomach pain
    • Earache
    • Severe cold with a deep, hacking or persistent cough
    • Sore throat with white spots on the throat
    • Rash
    • Chicken Pox

When should my child NOT be kept home from school?
    • Headache with no other symptoms
    • Mild cold, but otherwise the child feel well
    • Stomachache which is not persistent and doesn’t limit the child’s activity
    • Mild, seasonal allergies
    • Mild sore throat with no other symptoms and no spots on the throat

Children should not be kept home to baby-sit younger children, to answer the telephone, to do chores, or any other non-medical reasons. School is your child’s work. Your child needs to be attending school every day unless they are sick or have a medical appointment.
