Prior to becoming a full time first grade teacher, I worked as a Controller at Builders Accessories/Paramount Windows, one of Arizona's largest residential and commercial window companies. My interests shifted to education when I became pregnant with my second child. Upon graduating from Arizona State University with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and SEI endorsement, I began working as a substitute teacher for the Mesa, Gilbert, J.O Combs and Queen Creek school districts. While substitute teaching was fun and kept me busy, it was my dream to have my own classroom. I envisioned inspiring a classroom full of eager learners. After working for 6 months as a substitute teacher, I was hired at Guerrero Elementary where I taught first grade for 2 years while simultaneously completing my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Curriculum and Design. Upon completion of my first 2 years of teaching, I was asked to move to Kindergarten due to a shortage of highly qualified teachers, and taught Kindergarten for one year. While I loved my Guerrero family and students, I wanted to be closer to my own children and family, therefore transferred to my new home at Salk Elementary. This will be my 4th year teaching first grade at Salk Elementary.
I love learning and growing with my students. Each and every day, WE learn new things. I have an endless thirst for knowledge and am always seeking new information and techniques to help each and every child succeed. I have an alternative seating classroom that gives students the ability to move and work where they are most comfortable; which has been very successful in helping them retain concepts and work more efficiently.
I have been married for 9 years to an amazing husband who is also my best friend. We now have four children. My oldest (son) is a sophomore in high school, and my daughters are in fifth, third, and first grades respectively.
