Classes
Parents often ask what a typical student will take for social studies classes in the Mesa Public Schools. Here is a typical course schedule for grades 7 through 12. These are not the only social studies courses offered in the Mesa Public Schools. Our curriculum also includes anthropology, psychology, sociology and other classes. Check your child's course catalog to see what else may be offered at individual schools.

7th Grade (1 year) Social Studies

The study of history with the integration of civics, government, economics and geography covering the time period between the events leading to the Civil War up to the beginning of World War II.
8th Grade (1 year) Social Studies
The study of history with the integration of civics, government, economics and geography from the American Colonization to the writing of the Constitution, then starting with World War II to present.
9th Grade  (1 year) World History
The study of the history of the world from the ancient river civilization through the modern era.
10th Grade  Social studies courses are not required in the sophomore year.
11th Grade  (1 year) American History
The study of American History from Pre-Columbian Native America to the present.
12th Grade (1 semester) Government
The study of the U.S. government from its foundation through its contemporary functions.
12th Grade (1 semester) Economics
The study of economic concepts and how they effect today's consumers.
