Mrs. Sharon Benson
Gifted and Talented teacher for Crismon, Pomeroy, and Sirrine

Biography

Born In Oregon, Sharon moved with her family to Arizona in 1973, where she was enrolled into Mesa Public Schools.  She graduated from Westwood High School, and enrolled at ASU.  She transferred to Mesa Community, and then Phoenix Community College, after her first year at ASU, so she could explore some options.  She did  return to ASU, where she earned a BS in Sociology.  After some time working in the banking industry, Sharon returned to ASU in the early 1990's and earned her MEd along with my certification to teach.

Sharon taught in Apache Junction for four years before deciding to stay home with her children while they were young.  She has been active in school communities for many years serving as PTO President, volunteer, and general all around teacher helper!  She loved being able to take part in her children's education in a variety of ways.

She returned to the classroom as a substitute when the youngest of her 4 children entered 1st grade. This provided her with an opportunity to see many different learning environments and programs.  She has subbed in almost all areas at the elementary level, including our behavior disorder, autism, and MOID programs.  These many varied teaching opportunities enriched her teaching ability in many ways.

She began teaching at the Taft Gifted and Talented site, which also services Sousa students,  at the start of the 2013/14 school year as a substitute.  She quickly pursued the necessary steps for certification with the state in order to make this a permanent opportunity.  Sharon also currently holds a Gifted Endorsement.

She has  a passion for educating, and developing a student's ability to think, process, and reason.  Our program offers many opportunities for students to develop skills in creative and critical thinking, as well as applying many different problem solving strategies.  She looks forward to working with the students from Taft and Sousa for many years to come.
