Graduation Honor for Excellence in Service Learning

Ninth graders, now is a great time to get started earning those hours for your Honor for Excellence in Service Learning! Students who earn this Honor will receive: a special seal on the graduation diploma and a notation of the honor on their transcripts. This will look really good on those applications to college and for loans and grants you’ll need for college.

The Honor in Service Learning will be awarded to students for their completion of 150 hours of unpaid service. Those hours include preparation, action and reflection.

Students don’t forget that you must submit your paperwork to Mrs. Heller in the Media Center to begin the process. Your application will be reviewed and when approved you will be given a time card. NOTE: Your activities MUST be approved BEFORE you begin performing the service. All required forms are available from Mrs. Heller.

Service Learning activities will NOT be approved which: a) relate to a for-profit business unless there is a demonstrated human service nature to the activity, for example, a nursing home or hospital; b) directly relate to religious worship; c) displace a paid employee; or d) directly benefit the student’s relatives.

Please visit the Mesa Public School Service Learning website at: http://www.mpsaz.org/msl

Stop by the Media Center, pick up an application, and a list of possible opportunities to volunteer.

New opportunities are posted on the service learning board in the Media Center as they come in.

Timecards are due to Mrs. Heller in the Media Center on Friday August 31, 2007.
