Computer Applications
Grades 7-9 1 Sem.- 1/2 Cr.
Prerequisite: CB 10 Computer Foundations
This is a hands-on course in which students will learn several computer programs using Microsoft Office. Students will continue to develop their inputting skills (keyboard, voice, 10-key) and learn how to create, edit and format a variety of documents in Microsoft Word, spreadsheets using Excel and presentations using PowerPoint.
Computer Basics
We will start this course with a review of computer lab expectations and rules. Students will learn about the different parts of the computer and the software we will be using this semester. Students will start by learning a bit about the history of computers, how a comptuer works and the four essential components of a computer.
Inputting Devices
Students will continue to build their keyboarding speed and accuracy and also learn how to use Handwriting and Voice Recognition devices.
Students will be exposed to cutting edge technology as they learn to use voice recognition software. Once students train their computer's software to recognize their specific voice, they will be able to give commands and dictate text. The use of this technology requires problem solving and clear communication.
Microsoft Word
Students will continue to build their skills using Microsoft Word. Lessons in this class will include formatting letters and reports, desktop publishing, how to work with multiple documents and using templates and wizards. W
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is introduced with a lesson on the parts of a worksheet, moving the highlight and saving. The class will then move on to changing the appearance of worksheets and moving and copying data. One of the most useful things that we will learn in Excel is entering formulas and using functions. We will also learn how to create charts based on the information in the spreadsheets.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Our unit on Microsoft PowerPoint begins with the basics of creating a PowerPoint presentation. The lessons progress through adding pictures, sound, and animation. We will also learn about delivering a presentation to an audience.
