Close Up Trip

What: The 8th graders at Smith Jr. High will go to Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, P.A.

When: The trip is scheduled for April 20th to April 24th, 2008. We will leave for Washington D.C. on Sunday and return by Thursday evening.

Why: Eighth graders at Smith are learning about the government of the United States. This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to see our nation’s lawmakers in action. Students will have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills with group discussions.

Please note that students who any behavior issues at Smith will not be allowed to go on the trip.

Mandatory Close Up Student Meetings (in the auditorium) :
Tuesday, January 15th; 8:15 a.m.
Tuesday, February 12th; 8:15 a.m.
Tuesday, March 4th; 8:15 a.m.
Tuesday, April 8th; 6 to 7 p.m. (with you and your parents.)

Payment and Deadline Information:
All payments for the trip will be paid through the bookstore. You must have the student's name and ID number on checks. The number for the bookstore is 472-9908.

Our next deadline will be on Tuesday, January 15th, 2008. The last deadline for payment will be on February 28th, 2008.

ECA Information:
If you are concerned about being able to afford the trip you may use a method of payment called ECA. If you find an individual ($200 per year) or a couple to donate money ($400 per year) for the trip and they pay Arizona taxes (this should be checked by their accountant) you can have part or all of the trip paid for. The people that donate will then recieve a tax credit on their Arizona taxes.
