Welcome to English !
Hi! This is my fourth year here at Smith Junior High. Mesa has been my home since 1994 and I absolutely love it here in Arizona!
Language and literature are my passion and I am privileged to be able to share my love for reading and writing with seventh and eighth graders. I look forward to reading the stories, poems, and essays that will be written by my creative students, and I hope to get to know each one of you and your special abilities this year. Welcome to the 2009 – 2010 school year!
- Bachelor of Science Degree - Eastern Michigan University
- Masters Degree in Secondary Education - N.A.U.
Mission For The Class
-
Academic:
Our goal this year is to enjoy reading, understand what we read, and to experience the many different genres of writing. We'll do this while incorporating the writing process into products that are measured by the "6 Traits + 1" rubric. Of course, we want to have fun doing this by using literature, technology, music, and art as well as paper and pencil.
- Behavior:
In addition, it is equally important for junior high students to exhibit polite behavior that will enhance our classroom learning environment. Therefore, encouragement and consequences will be administered to guide students in that direction.
Homework Policy
Homework will consist of studying vocabulary words, finishing class assignments, and daily personal reading time. Extra credit is given only after students have completed and turned in all assigned class work. Extra credit will consist of Reading Responses, and technology based assignments. Seventh grade students may turn in any make-up assignment until the week prior to the end of the quarter for half credit. For eighth grade students, late work will not be accepted. If you have a special project or situation you'd like to bring to my attention, please contact me and we'll work together to make this year an academic success!
