A Little About Me

I graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 2002. I have

taught Reading at Smith Junior High for the last 12 years. I love interacting with young people during the fascinating transition from children to young adult. On a personal note: I have been married to an angel for 40 years. I have four absolutely brilliant children and seven adorable grandchildren. My hobbies include reading (surprise!), spoiling the grandkids, Boy Scouts of America, and teaching others how to research their family history.

Reading at Smith

Reading is a vital form of communication in the 21st century and a critical skill for students in this Information Age. It requires complex skills to get meaning out of text. In class we focus on the process of reading which includes phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary and  comprehension.
