Biography

Hello, my name is Tony Elmer and I will be your student's math teacher.  I am excited to be here to help you with your student's educational needs.  Let me give you a glimpse of myself.  I am a native to Arizona as I grew up near the copper mines of the Miami/Globe area.

Over the past 13 years, my experiences in teaching has ranged from teaching junior high and high school mathematics, to teaching educational courses at the university level.  Most of those years have been spent right here in Mesa.  I have spent time teaching on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, Superior Jr/Sr High School, Globe High School, Liberty School, and now Smith.  I spent one year as principal at Liberty School.  I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from NAU.  More recently, I completed a life-long goal, when I received my Ph.D. from Madison University.

I was fortunate enough to play baseball for Pima Community College in the NJCAA College World Series.  Our team finished as the number 2 team in the country, where I was named to the All-Tourney team as a pitcher.  From there I went on to New Mexico State University where I ended my baseball career.

Last summer, I married my wife Katherine on a cruise ship to Mexico.  She is a 2nd grade teacher in Anthem and really enjoys working with kids.

I have three wonderful children.  My 16 year old son is a junior at Skyline High School.  He  enjoys playing football, wrestling, running track, skateboarding, and his girlfriend, not necessarily in that order.  My 12 year old daughter loves to play sports as well.  Her favorite sport to play is softball, but she finds time to dance and is currently learning to play the guitar.  She also enjoys helping me build and work on random items in our garage.  My wife and I just had a healthy baby boy this past summer who we named Riley.  He enjoys eating and sleeping, as well as keeping us up at night.

I look forward to getting to know you and your student during the school year as we work together to help them acheive thier goals.
