Ms. Shannon Davila
I am so excited for my eighth year as a Sidewinder! This is my 15th year in Mesa and 23rd in education. I am so lucky that I already know lots of Smith students and families after counseling at Skyline High School and our feeder school Sousa Elementary School since 2002. I earned my B.A. in Journalism and English from the University of Arizona (Go Cats!!!), teaching credentials through Ottawa University, and M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of Phoenix. Before being a counselor, I worked as a crime news reporter, a freelance writer, and an English teacher.
Even though I am the designated counselor for students whose last names begin with letters A-H, I am here to help all Smith students be successful academically, socially and personally. I am available to students during classroom lessons, for talks one-on-one, in small groups when possible, and even when I am out and about on campus. I am often out at lunches and in the halls each day and I encourage students to check in and ask questions then, so they can have instant feedback. Beyond the day-to-day duties as a counselor, I am the Smith testing coordinator and sponsor the ambassador team.
I am a a proud product of Mesa Public Schools (a Roosevelt Roughrider, a Powell Patriot & a Westwood Warrior!) and love being a Sidewinder and part Mesa's tradition of great schools.
