I am honored to be the principal of Sousa Elementary School. Sousa is an amazing learning community, and I feel fortunate to have the privilege to serve our community. At Sousa, we reach for the stars everyday by having high expectations for students and staff. We believe that our Sousa stars will work together to reach our greatest potential as a learner, friend, and member of our community in a positive, respectful, and safe environment.
Let me take a moment to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Clear Lake, IA which is a small town located between Des Moines and Minneapolis. My home town is recognized around the world for having an annual Winter Party at the Surf Ballroom, the last place Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper performed before a fatal plane crash. I have lived in Arizona for 12 years and the suburbs of Chicago for 10 years. I cheer for Arizona sports teams unless they are playing the Cubs. I have been married for 20 years to my husband Eric, and have a son, Anthony, who is in the fifth grade. I graduated from Arizona State University after a dual major of special education and elementary education. I continued my education at Loyola University Chicago where I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
I have worked in the field of education for 15 years. As a teacher, I taught students with emotional disabilities in grades 4-8. Although this is my first year as an elementary school principal, I have been an educational administrator for 8 years. I have been a lead teacher, early childhood coordinator, Jr. High assistant principal, Director of Educational Services, and a special education director.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you throughout the school year, and being a Sousa star. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
