The 2017-2018 school year will be my 14th year of teaching. I have taught two years of 5th grade, eleven years of 6th grade, and this will be my first year in 4th grade. I spent the first 9 1/2 years of my career teaching next door to my husband at Webster Elementary in Mesa. Eventually, we both made the decision to work closer to home and I was fortunate to fill an open sixth grade position at Sousa Elementary in August of 2013.
I grew up in the great state of North Dakota. I received my BA from the University of North Dakota and made the decision to move to Arizona. With great pride, I have also completed my Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University (NAU) and have obtained my Reading Specialist, English as Second Language, and Middle School Math Endorsements.
I am married with a wonderful son and a beautiful daughter. My husband, Mr. Beck, is also a teacher with Mesa Public Schools. He teaches gifted education at Taft Elementary and he works with Brinton, Sousa, and Taft students. When I am not teaching, the thing I enjoy most is spending time with my husband and children. I also enjoy traveling (especially to North Dakota), going out to a restaurant for a great meal, and drinking a nice cup of coffee.
As a professional, I strive to find ways to make learning meaningful and fun. More than anything, I hope my students know I am always willing to lend a listening ear, encourage them to smile when they're having a bad day, and push them to reach their greatest potential.
