Biography

I am an Arizona native (there are not very many of us around). When I started Kindergarten I attended Whittier Elementary in Mesa. My mom and dad decided to make the move to Tempe. I went through the Tempe Unified School District and graduated from Marcos de Niza High School. During my Senior Year of High School I worked at Sunrise Preschool. It was there that I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching. I attended Arizona State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

My first job interview brought me to Sousa. I knew when I stepped on the campus this was where I wanted to be. I was very fortunate that the Principal (Mr. Stiffler) gave me that opportunity.

I have been teaching at Sousa for 20 years. My first year at Sousa I taught half-time Kindergarten. My second year, I taught fourth grade. My third year I was sent to Second grade where I spent five wonderful years. Then I was told that I was being promoted to fifth grade. (I cried.) However, I enjoyed that age group immensely and I taught fifth for five years. I then requested a change because I missed the little guys. So, I went back to second grade for five years. I then volunteered to go down to first grade where I have completed three years and find it very rewarding.
