Biography
After graduation from Chugiak High School in Alaska, I received a dual Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education with an emphasis in Intellectual Disabilities from Northern Arizona University and later a Master's Degree in Adult Education from the University of Phoenix. I worked as a long term substitute Special Ed. Preschool teacher in the Washington School District at Sweetwater Elementary, until hired by Mesa Public Schools in 1989. I was blessed to open Falcon Hill Elementary as the only self-contained teacher on campus teaching students 9-13 years old with Moderate Intellectual Disabilities for 9 years before transferring to Kerr Elementary School. There I opened the District's first Kindergarten Special Education program in 1998 instructing Kindergarten students with autism. Nine years later I was accepted to become a Demonstration Teacher for the areas of SID, MoID, MD, and a few Autistic programs. I continued in this capacity for two years before becoming one of the Content Specialist for Alternate Academic Standards in Special Education in 2008.
