Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Mesa Public Schools Special Education Parent Information Website. Since this is Special Education, I should probably call it the MPSSEPIW! Those of you who are new to this arena may not get the joke, but those who have been exposed to all of the services, programs, meetings and documents that are part of what we do will understand that we tend to speak in initials rather than words sometimes. The purpose of this website is to provide you with the information necessary to understand the meaning of all of those initials and also to help you to understand the opportunities, requirements and processes involved in Special Education so that you can be a full partner in your child’s education.

Much of the information that you will need is available in the links provided at the side of the page and in the body of this letter. In addition, you can ask specific questions by clicking on the FAQ tab in the left margin. Of course, if all else fails, you can pick up the phone and give us a call. A good place for you to learn about Special Education is on the Parent Information Network and the Partners are Liaisons to Schools website that is maintained by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). This site will provide links to various resources including workshops, books and brochures such as Traveling the Special Education Highway. This brochure describes the process of identifying students with disabilities and outlines the services available. You can also click here for information about programs offered by the Mesa Public Schools.

We look forward to working with you on behalf of your child.

Sincerely,

William Santiago
Director of Special Education
