Grades 7 - 12

"Scientific literacy is the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for personal decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity."

-       National Science Education Standards, p. 22

"Science is not just a body of knowledge that reflects current understanding of the world;
it is also a set of practices used to establish, extend, and refine that knowledge."

-       A Framework for K-12 Science Education, p. 26

The scientifically literate person is one who possesses an inquiring mind, understands, uses and has a positive attitude toward science. All students must have the opportunity to become scientifically literate and have a sound knowledge base of scientific concepts, systems and process skills which enable individuals to become positive contributors to society and productive members of the work force.
