Colleen received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University and Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Colleen’s past experience includes special education teacher grades 6-12, upper elementary classroom teacher, and middle-school flight instructor.
Colleen has been employed by Mesa Public Schools since 1987 and is currently serving as the district's STEM Specialist. With a focus on curriculum design and program development, Colleen has been instrumental in providing STEM educational opportunities, career connections and STEM programs for students as well as STEM professional development experiences for district teachers. Colleen works with many educational stakeholders throughout the community, such as SciTech Institute, Maricopa County School Superintendent’s Office, the IDEA Museum, and Arizona State University.
Most recent awards include PBS Teacher Innovation Award winner and recipient of the National Science Teachers Association's "Making a Difference" Award. Colleen is an elected Advocate with the Space Frontier Foundation, National Space Foundation's Teacher Liaison for the state of Arizona, Ideologist for the IDEA Museum in Mesa, Arizona, and member of the National Science Teachers Association, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and National Space Foundation.
