Welcome Back Freshman!!!! This year we will be studying the development of Western Civilization and discussing events happening in the world today.  I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you and making it a successful learning experience for all of us.

Grades

Your grades are calculated according to the following percentages:

               A = 100 - 90  B = 89  -  80   C =  79 -   70 D =  69  -  60

Grades are grouped into 3 categories and each will account for the total points for the quarter grade.

               1.  Study Skills = calendar, study skills and packets

                        2.  Assignments = homework and class work

                        3.  Quiz and Test Grade

Semester grades are determined by combining the quarter grades.  Your behavior and willingness to work will also be taken into consideration if your earned grade is within two points of the higher grade.

Homework

Homework will be assigned 2-3 times a week. Each day you will fill out a calendar which will be kept in your folder for reference. It will be turned in and graded. You can also go online to view the class calendar and assignments.

Attendance

It is important to be in class to listen and participate in class discussions.  If you are gone, then it is your responsibility to check the online calendar and obtain any missing assignments.

Make-up work

You are responsible for all make-up work. That includes any assignments missed due to illness, vacation, concerts or plays. Assignments which are due on days when you are involved in school activities will not be accepted for full credit unless turned in on that day.  For days that you are absent due to illness or travel, you will have the same number of days you were gone to turn in the work without a grade reduction. After that, your grade will be lowered by 20%. Work will not be accepted later than two weeks after the due date of the assignment.

Supplies

You will need to bring the following to class everyday:

                        1. Spiral Notebook    2. Pencil and pen     3. Highlighter

                       4. Dividers

Textbooks

Each classroom has a class set of books available for use.  You will be issued a textbook to take home for the entire school year.  It is your responsibility to take care of that book since you will be charged for any damage that occurs to it while it is in your possession.

Classroom Behavior

I expect each student to behave in a responsible and respectful manner while in my classroom.  The procedures you are expected to follow are:

1. Please be in your seat and ready to start when the bell rings.

 If you are not in the room when the bell rings you will be

considered tardy.

                        a. 1st tardy = you will be asked to stand for the period.

b. 2nd tardy = you will be given a 30 minute detention and your parents will be called.

2. If you have a question or something to add to the discussion then please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

3. If you need to leave your desk once the class has started, please ask permission before leaving your desk.

4. Gum is not allowed and will result in either detention or push-ups.

5. Electronic devices such as cell phones, iPods, etc. are not allowed to be used during the school day. If any such device is seen it will be taken and sent to the office.

If the procedures are not followed or behavior is inappropriate, the following disciplinary action will occur:

                        1st =  correction in class , 2nd = private conference hall,

                         3rd = call to parents

                        4th =    detention and/or referral to office

During the year, please remember that all of us are unique and have favorite ways that we learn.  Please be thoughtful and considerate of others in both your actions and words during class so that each student has the opportunity to learn and do their best.

Even though it feels like you are “just returning to Stapley” it is important to remember that you are now considered to be a “High School Student”. Each grade you earn becomes part of your permanent G.P.A. and earns you credit towards graduation.  It’s important you realize that all of your grades this year are just as important as the ones earn after you leave Stapley and move on to Mountain View. Doing your very best during your freshman year will help you   establish a successful foundation for the rest of your high school career.

Parents, if you have any questions or concerns now or during the year, please call or leave a message at 472-2252.  The best time to reach me is after school or you can also contact me by email at:  jrreimer@mps.org

Thank You,
