Stapley Choir Director and Intro to Performing Arts Teacher
I am thrilled to be teaching at Stapley Jr High!
I am a native of Southern California. I grew up 10 minutes from Disneyland and miss going every week! I have always had a love of singing and in 8th grade my friends convinced me to join choir. I'm so happy I did! In high school I sang in the Vocal Jazz ensemble as well as the Concert Choir.
When looking for colleges I decided I wanted to still be involved in music and found Northern Arizona University. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do yet but after one semester of being a music major I knew I wanted to teach choir. When I was at NAU I sang in the Women's Chorale, Shrine of the Ages Choir, Chamber Singers, and High Altitude (Vocal Jazz Ensemble). I studied conducting with Dr. Edith Copley.
I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Music Education with a Choral Emphasis.
I have previously taught 6-8 grade choir in the Higley Unified School District and am in my seventh year with Mesa Public Schools where I have taught at Kino Jr High and Red Mountain High School. This will be my sixth year at Stapley and I love being a Sabercat!
In 2013, I was named the New Music Educator of the Year for the state of Arizona.
I am very active in my professional communities, attending conferences and conventions. Previously I have been a board member with the Arizona Choral Educators as the Arizona All-State Vocal Jazz Chair. I just finished my fourth year as the AzACDA Jr High Repertoire and Standards Chair, running the state Jr High Choral Festival and assisting with the AzACDA Summer Conference. I also am a director with the Phoenix Children's Chorus, conducting the East Valley Cadet Choir.
I am an active member of both ACDA and NAfME.
On a more personal note, I love baseball and sewing! I plan my summer visits to California based on when the Angels are in town. I have two nephews that are the cutest human beings on the planet (and that live too far away). I enjoy cooking and netflix!
Join choir! You won't regret it!
