It's hard to believe that the summer has come to an end! I hope that you had some fun over the summer and got away from the heat for a little while. We have all returned to work hard in the up coming year. I have a lot of fun plans for us this year and promise we will learn along the way, too. The units will include: grammar, writing skills using Step up to Writing and the Six Traits, paragraphs, essays, poetry, short stories, and a novel study. All of the units 8th grade will contribute to improving each student's literacy.
Now, I would like to share a little about myself with you, so we can get to know each other better. I was born in Dallas, Texas and lived there until I was three years old. I then moved to Minnesota, and finally to Illinois where I grew up. I have a son Joshua and step-son Nathan who is an elevator mechanic apprentice and moved out and bought his first home. Joshua is married and has a son Maddox and one more on the way! I also have a step-daughter Mckayla who is married and has two children Avery and Mason. I am really lucky to have all these beautiful grandchildren. This does not mean my house is empty, I have a menagerie of animals, a chocolate labs Izzy, one Yorkie-poo Oliver and a cat Lucy.
I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I have an emphasis in language arts, Spanish and middle school. I have my masters in secondary education at NAU with an emphasis in reading. I have taught for 16 years at Stapley teaching in the English Department. I am very excited to be here at Stapley Junior High. This is an awesome school with an incredible staff. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with all of you.
I want to work with you to be a positive influence on your family. If you suspect there may be a problem, have questions or special concerns, please contact me. Email is the easiest and most efficient way to communicate for common issues.
