ATTENDANCE
Stevenson Elementary School wishes to help children succeed academically. Excessive absences may result in poor academic achievement, lower grades and possible retention.
Attendance information is sent home to all parents of children that have missed more than five days. Subsequent letters are sent home when children miss 10 and 15 days. Programs are in place for students with excessive absences.
TARDIES
When students arrive late they miss important announcements and their teacher's directions for morning assignments. They also get behind in their work. Often a teacher must stop teaching the rest of the class and give his/her attention to the student who arrives late. Tardy students make it difficult for the class to get off to a good start in the morning.
All students having more than four tardies within one grading period will lose their lunch recess for each additional tardy.

All students having more than eight tardies will be required to spend 1/2 day in the GYAT (Get Your Act Together) room for each additional tardy.

Parents of all students having more than ten tardies will be required to schedule a personal conference with the principal.

If tardiness continues after conferencing, the administration, parents and staff will
design a plan to ensure student success.
HOMEWORK
Homework may be requested for students when they are absent. Please call the teacher at his/her telephone number and leave a voice mail (preferably in the morning).
TITLE I
Title I is a federal aid-to-education program that provides funds to state and local education agencies to finance educational programs for students requiring assistance in basic skills.

Stevenson Elementary receives this additional funding. Programs include small group instruction in the regular classroom, in a different setting or the Title I lab in curriculum areas of reading, mathematics or both in all grades. This instruction is in addition to the regular classroom programs and does not replace a child's daily instruction with the classroom teacher. Services may be provided by certified teachers and/or instructional assistants.

Throughout the school year Title I meetings are held. These meetings provide an officially recognized way for parents to be heard and to affect their children's educational future. Notification of dates and times of these meetings is sent home with students, posted on the campus and on the website school calendar.
AR (Accelerated Reader)
Stevenson students happily participate in Accelerated Reader (AR)
asdf
Students learn from instruction but need time to practice. AR provides students opportunities to PRACTICE reading every day. This practice is done at the student's independent level.

AR increases the quantity, quality and growth of reading skills.

AR encourages students to become life-long readers and love reading.

AR provides opportunities for students to feel success in reading.
