Ms. Mary Price
Summit Academy Jr. High Concert Choir Director/Elementary General Music Instructor
Hello and welcome! I love teaching at Summit Academy and am currently teaching elementary general music as well as being the director of the Summit Jr High Concert Choir.
I am a midwest girl, I grew up in Iowa. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 and I realized, as I got older, that I loved singing as much as I loved the piano. I continued to study music through high school as well as play sports however, as college approached, I knew that I was going to pursue a career in music education so I quit playing sports to be able to go on a summer choral tour to Europe. From then on my focus was music. I attended the Central University of Iowa where I completed a double major in Voice and Collaborative Piano (piano accompanying) and graduated with a B.A. in Vocal Music Education. I continued my education at the University of Iowa where I received my M.A. in Vocal Music Education and an equivalency degree in Music Therapy. I have completed my three level certifications in both the Kodaly method and the Orff process and use both extensively in my classrooms. I have presented numerous Orff/Kodaly clinics for other educators and was the Special Topics instructor at the Wichita State University Kodaly Certification program. I have also enjoyed being a private voice and piano instructor. I continue to be active in my professional organizations.
. I enjoy working, outside of the school day, with the Phoenix Children's Chorus where I am the director of Poco Voce, and am the collaborative pianist for the Cadet Choir as well as a music literacy instructor.
The 2017-2018 school year will be my 28th year in the classroom and it is my passion, I can NOT imagine ever doing anything else! I believe that every child is valuable and that ALL are worth my efforts. I strongly believe in the power of music education to positively impact, and change the lives of my students.
