Taking care of our students needs is our #1 priority; the office is sometimes very busy, where we can’t always answer the phone.  So if you happen to get the answering machine during school hours, please leave a message clearly stating your child’s name, grade, and reason for your call.   Normally a call back is not made unless you state that you would like to speak to someone.

  • Please call the attendance office as soon as possible during school hours in order for your child’s absence to be excused.
  • If a phone call is not received for an absence  each day an automated phone message will be delivered to your primary phone number informing you of your child’s absence.
  • The school reserves the right to assign an appropriate absence code for an absence or tardy that is deemed unsatisfactory or unacceptable.
    • Examples (but not limited to):  Going shopping, babysitting, missing the bus, oversleeping, birthday, etc….

  • It is your child’s responsibility to ask his/her teachers for makeup work for the day absence.
  • Please call in on each day of your child’s absence
  • Please call the school if you anticipate your child of being absent for a reason other than illness, prior to that absence date.
    • Example would be if you are pre-planning a family trip during school time.

  • Parents should provide doctor/dentist notes to the school when students are absent for appointments or illness.
  • Documentation from court appearances or counseling appointments could also be given to school.

TARDIES (Late to classes):

  • Please call the office if your child will be late for school.
  • Please have your child sign in at the office when they arrive at school.
  • Your child will be given a tardy pass to class.

Tardy Letters:

  • Summit Academy will send out computer generated tardy letters when your child reaches 5 tardies.
  • Additional tardy letters will be sent on the 10th and 15th tardies.

Arizona State Law (15-802.A, 15-803.A) requires every person who has custody of a child between the ages of six and sixteen years shall make sure the child attends school for the full time school is in session.

  • Unexcused or frequent absences are reviewed by Mesa Public School (MPS) District Truancy, you and/or your child may be called to meet with an officer.
  • When reviewing absences, MPS District Truancy will take all notes and documentation into consideration.

  • Summit Academy will send out computer generated attendance letters to you when absences for your child reach 5 days.
  • Additional letters will be sent to you on your child at 10th absences and 15th absences.

  • If there is a change in telephone numbers or addresses during the school year, please notify the front office.

Summit Academy is a closed campus meaning no child can leave campus unaccompanied by an Adult until the end of the day bell rings.

  • You (the parent/guardian) are the only person(s) that will be able to sign your child out of school.
    • You call the school and designated someone else to pick him/her up for that day.
    • NOTE:  People on your childs  "Emergency Contact" list can not pick your child up unless someone from the School Nurse or School administration personnel.
  • Any person signing out a student during school hours will be required to show a picture ID when signing your child out.  This is for the safety of our students.
  • Each child must be signed out on the log sheet.
  • You child will not be called out of their learning environment until you or your designee are in the office.
