Biography

Be YOUR Best:  Be Taylor!  Be: Responsible, Respectful, and Positive!  These qualities work EVERYWHERE, all the time!

Hello Taylor Trojan's!  My name is Barb Nehls and I am a Family And Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher!  I moved to Mesa with my husband in June 2013 from Midlothian, Virginia. I am passionate about FACS!  It is where ALL learning comes together for practical application in life!! FACS is under the umbrella of CTE - Career Technology Education; the engine of our society.

I feel extremely fortunate to return to Taylor and the opportunity to teach FACS.

Seventh and 8th graders will be combined for Intro To FACS -  basic skills for LIFE.  Students will have learning units including:

·         Personal Development, Character, Communication

·         Sewing, textiles, and clothing care

·         Careers and Education Planning

·          Basic Nutrition and food prep

There will be activities that are across all curriculum to support the academics and bring those academics to (real) life.

All of these are skills for life to help your child become more and more independent.  What I hope for each student is that through our theme of Be your BEST: Be Taylor by being responsible, respectful, and positive that students will leave understanding the importance of good character and having integrity.  These skills and those qualities are the recipe for success!

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie. I taught FACS (what was Home Economics) in both Southern Minnesota and Wisconsin after college.  I worked in social services in Florida and taught FACS in Virginia before moving to Mesa.   I feel very lucky to have lived and worked in different parts of our country.

My husband and I enjoy travel whether it be for a week or two or so many wonderful day trips around The Valley and into the mountains!  We love Arizona and living in Mesa!  I am looking forward to a great year at Taylor teaching your children (the) FACS!
