Hello and welcome to the 2016-17 school year. My name is Chris Melcher. I am looking forward to another year of teaching and learning at Webster Elementary School!
I am married with three (grown) children and two beautiful (little!) granddaughters. I completed my M.Ed in Elementary Education (with an emphasis in Bilingual/Multicultural Education) in December 2008. I also have my (full) ESL and Reading endorsements.
In my experience every classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My role as a teacher is to give my students the tools with which to cultivate that knowledge. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I will present curriculum that involves the interests of my students and make learning relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make students active learners. Finally, I will tie learning into the world community to help children become caring and active members of our society.
Teaching is a lifelong learning process that continually challenges me to accept new and innovative teaching philosophies and strategies, learn and value parents and the greater community, learn from my colleagues, and especially learn from students. Students have taught me to open my mind and my heart to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. I feel so fortunate to be part of a community of life long learners.
