Congratulations IB Class of 2017

groupCongratulations to our IB Class of 2017!

Mesa Public Schools is proud to recognize you for your accomplishment of completing our most rigorous program of study available - the IB Program. The class of 2017 is a group of outstanding individuals that includes 13 National Merit Commended Scholars, National Hispanic Scholars, Wood's Scholars, Neal Scholars, A Colangelo Scholar and so many more. The list truly goes on and on... and in addition to that... the IB class of 2017 has been offered nearly $13million in scholarship and financial awards to attend college- WOW!!

Each senior in the IB Class of 2017 was recognized at the IB Commencement Ceremony on 5/19/2017 held at the Arizona State University Polytechnic campus in Mesa.

In attendance were Dr. Davis, IB Program Director, Mr. Lynch, Westwood Principal, Dr. Cowan, MPS Superintendent, Dr. Lesar, MPS Associate Superintendent, Mr. Smith, MPS Board Member and Mr. Peterson, MPS board member (pictured left celebrating the graduation of IB Senior, Isaiah Flannagan).

As you can see, our leadership is very supportive of our IB grads and in some cases, literally carries them across the finish line!

Our IB grads will be attending universities across the country from Princeton, New Jersey to Stanford, California. We could not be prouder of their many accomplishments and we are thankful for the impact that they have had not only at Westwood High School, but in Mesa Public Schools. It's truly amazing to see the growth of the IB program at Westwood over the years. The program started small 11 years ago, but it has more than tripled in size and graduates more IB students with their Diploma than any other program in the state of Arizona!

We also had two of our 2017 IB grads, Angela Foley and David Jaffe, featured in the media recently! Click here to read this outstanding article about their future plans to tackle Diplomacy! Other grads had the opportunity to speak on TED Talks to share their stories and lessons learned... check out this TED Talk video by 2017 IB Grad, Cora Stevens.

There is no doubt about it - their achievements are many, and they have made Westwood and Mesa Public Schools very proud. Once again, congratulations IB Class of 2017 - you are, and always will be... IB Warriors!
