Scholarships Update 1 of 2
Below is a list of scholarships that I have received from the school district. In a couple days, I will send another message with more scholarships that have arrived at school that have not been put into the bulletin yet.
We'd like to share the following student grant/scholarship opportunities with you:
NEW 1,200 awards of $1K each from Best Buy
Best Buy @15 Scholarship
Organization: Best Buy
Eligibility: Students in grades 9-12
Grant Value: 1,200 scholarships worth $1K each
Grant Deadline: Wednesday February 16th, 2011
This year the Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program will award scholarships to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation. 1,200 students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

NEW Scholarships to help teens build life skills
Leadership Opportunities for Teens (LOFT) 2011
Organization: Alexander Graham Bell Association
Eligibility: Teens
Grant Value: 24 LOFT scholarships
Grant Deadline: Tuesday March 1st, 2011
Applications are now available online for AG Bell’s acclaimed Leadership Opportunities for Teens (LOFT) program for 2011. LOFT is a four day program designed for participants to develop skills in individual leadership, teamwork, understanding group dynamics, communication, public speaking, and self-advocacy. The 2011 program will take place July 24-28 at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C.

NEW Travel to D.C. for Law Day
American Bar Association Young Lawyers Competition
Organization: American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division
Eligibility: Students in grades 9-12
Grant Value: Travel expenses
Grant Deadline: Tuesday March 1st, 2011
The 2011 contest theme is “The Legacy of John Adams: From Boston to Guantanamo.” Students are asked to showcase how John Adams, America’s first “lawyer president,” influenced our nation. Video entries should be as creative as possible in conveying President Adams’ legacy and its effects throughout history. Finalists will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C., for the ABA Law Day celebration, including roundtrip airfare for two people (if necessary for a guardian to travel),hotel accommodations, and a $100 per diem for two days. The winner will be announced during the Law Day celebration.

$10K in scholarships for high school students
Samsung Scholarship Program
Organization: Samsung Techwin America’s Electronic Imaging Division
Eligibility: U.S. high school students
Grant Value: 10 $1,000 scholarships
Grant Deadline: Saturday April 30th, 2011
Students interested in participating should submit up to a 300 word essay answering the question: “Is technology critical to a live presentation? Or is it just a crutch?” The papers will be judged by an independent panel based on original thinking, relevance to the real world, and writing quality. High school students in the United States must have a teacher to sponsor them and grant Samsung permission to use their photo and essay in publicity efforts.

ScholarGames.com Scholarship Gaming
Organization: ScholarGames.com
Eligibility: Middle and high school students
GrantValue: Varies
Competition for scholarships is grouped into a series of 75 day rounds. Players will compete against the entire ScholarGamers.com community to generate the highest cumulative scores for 45 days. A time limit of 20 minutes is imposed on each competition. Within 30 days, the 15 players with the highest scores are flown to Disney’s BoardWalk Resort to compete head-to-head for the scholarships. The first round of competition kicks off November 1, with participants playing for a $10,000 first prize. Each of the 15 finalists will receive scholarship money, in the form of 529 plan contributions that can be used towards educational expenses. Scholarships will only be awarded to middle-and high-school students, aged 13 and above. Competition rounds will repeat every 45 days, for a total of 120 planned scholarship opportunities in the next year.
