Biography

Hello, and Welcome. My name is Ms. Smith-Harris and I am very excited to get this year started as your son/daughter’s Junior and Senior English teacher here at Westwood High School.  Here is a little bit about myself. I have one grown daughter, one Jack Russell terrier and one tuxedo cat, who actually belongs to my daughter! I have worked with the Mesa Public School district for over 17 years,  between Kino Junior High and here at Westwood High This year in my English class, students will be reading and analyzing literary texts, studying new vocabulary, practicing good grammar lessons, and further developing their writing skills.

I believe students need to be challenged and engaged in learning through a rigorous but entertaining curriculum.  And in order to achieve this goal, they need a variety of opportunities in learning to attain knowledge and mastery of these skills.  Also, students need to recognize their worth as individuals as well as learners.

I look forward to meeting your student and working together with you as partners in their learning process. Here is a link to an online Mesa Public Schools resource to assist parents and students as they prepare for remote learning  Remote Learning Support for Parents and Students page.

Please, your patience is requested as well, due to our “new normal”. I will always provide any updates to how we will either add or change our method of Remote Learning.   Until that time, we will be utilizing assignments that are in Canvas. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via google text or phone at (818) 839-1590 or by email.   Thank you for your time and I look forward to working together with you in ensuring a successful year for you and your student.  Tear um up Westwood!

However the number one priority is to stay safe!

 Sincerely,

 Ms. Smith-Harris
