To teach is to constantly learn in new ways through the eyes of a student.

The scholar is that man who must take up into himself all the ability of the time, all the contributions of the past, all the hopes of the future. He must be an university of knowledges.

---Ralph Waldo Emerson

Permit a moment of your time to share a bit of myself with you: I am Aaron R. Decker; yet, everyone simply calls me Decker.  This is the 10th+ or so year that I have had the pure joy of teaching.  It is in the blood: My grandfather taught the very same subjects as I and my mother taught for near 30 years here in Mesa.  My only dilemma at Western State College in Colorado, or the U of A, or yet again at ASU was what not to study; for my interests varied from literature, to sociology, to anthropology, and to the humanities.  Needless to say History is the common link--the mother of all social sciences and thus my true passion.  Yes indeed, I am a proud history geek though I have also taught several years within our literature department.  It is a true honor to be here at Westwood--a truly unique and wonderous school of dedicated teachers and students whom challenge and enlighten every educator.

This year as in years past I have the honor teaching American History--a subject that I grown passionate towards; as well as, my true joy teaching Honors World History. For American Studies, emphasis is for students to understand the country they have today as inherited from our forefathers: the good, bad, and even the ugly so that they may think critically in a participatory democracy.  Though the course work is at par for district guidelines, the instruction is at a college level albeit with a great deal more humor.... As for AA Honors History the coursework and instruction is rigorous and demanding, blending art, literature in addition to the history required of an era or region.

Should you have any concerns, questions, or simply what to talk history feel free to call or email.....

Respectfully AR Decker
